What is the difference between an even and an odd function?

An even function has this property:

f(-x) = f(x) (example: f(x)=x^2)

An odd function behaves like:

f(-x) = -f(x) (example: f(x)=x^3)

One more thing: Some functions are neither even nor odd. A function has to satisfy one of the above properties, if not, then the function is neither even nor odd.
